Frequently asked questions.
Can I have pieces tailor made ?
WoodnArtbNice is happy to make pieces guided by your personal preferences. Commissions are accepted either for wood serving ware or wall art, be it large or small. Please send us an email of what you would like us to produce and we’ll see what we can do.
Will we introduce any new products?
We are presently developing a new range of resin coasters which should prove popular. We also have some trinket dishes, shells, glass canisters, wine /cheese and picnic tables, occasional tables and different size serving boards. Feel free to contact us by email to see which of these items is currently available.
What are our raw products?
The most important raw material that goes into the delivery of our saleable serving ware products is the unstinting enthusiasm of our in-house artist to provide a range of items that is both pleasing to the eye and functional. That same enthusiasm is also in play in the production of our wall art which is a wonderful mix of acrylics, alcohol ink and resin on a canvas, art board or wood composite base. and then presented at gallery quality but at much lower prices.
Our wood products are sourced from Australian woodworkers and suppliers and are almost entirely:
Acacia- a sustainable timber renowned for its durabilty and hardness which makes it a prized timber in the production of kichen and serverwares. The unique grain patterns and contrasting colours create a truly beautiful appearance.
Bamboo- the fastest growing of all timbers which is naturally sustainable. It is popularly used in home products and has an interesting grain that is elegant and natural looking. The wood is resistant to bacterial growth and warping.
Camphor laurel - the salvaging of which provides a good source of ethically acceptable timber that is ideal to create products for use in areas where food preparation takes place. The timber has excellent anti-bacterial qualities and features a strong dark grain against a yellow base, with a moderately fine and even texture.
Customer opinion is also especially important and we invite your feedback which we will use to aid future product development.
Can I see products in your studio? Can I collect my purchases?
We don’t have a workplace where customers can view products but we regularly display our wares at galleries and markets throughout Greater Sydney . If you live in Sydney and wish to see particular works please email us and we will endeavour to bring them with us to the next market or make other arrangements to our mutual satisfaction.
Regarding the pick up of items it may be possible on occasion for us to meet you at locations throughout Sydney and personally hand over the product as we are often out and about. If you wish to see whether we can accommodate you please nominate possible meeting points for our consideration.
Can I cut on the serving ware?
You can certainly cut on the exposed wooden part of the table serving ware and you might find that any scratches left behind add character to the particular piece. However, please don’t cut on the resined parts as this is likely to result in scratches which will be difficult, if not impossible, to remove.
If you wish to remove any scratching to the wooden section please sand accordingly and then apply a coating of oil to rehydrate the timber.
We endorse the use of grapeseed oil over other oils. It is freely available in supermarkets and is often the most recommended of the vegetable oils that can be used.
Can I serve food directly on the serving ware?
Any finger food which you wish to serve directly on the serving board should be placed on the exposed wood only. The resined section should be used to hold plates and bowls or left uncovered to show it to best effect. After all it’s an art piece designed to draw the eye and promote conversation. Why hide it?
